If your home sits within the designated retrofit zone (between Baseline Rd and Northern Ave, and 16th St to 59th Ave), you may qualify for:

Up to $2000 towards the conversion of your wood fireplace to a natural-gas log set.

Maricopa County’s Program Rules

✅ 90 Process Requires A Lot but hey, it’s $2k!

  • County covers up to $2,000 for gas log retrofits; homeowner pays any cost above that.
  • Project is resident-managed—homeowner handles timelines and communication – contractor can’t submit for you.
  • 90 Day Process requires three 30-day deadlines; missing one means reapplying and starting over.
  • Gas logs are not a primary heat source but can be used on No Burn Days.
  • Expect a construction-type project with some variations in cost.
  • Must have an existing gas meter from Southwest Gas
  • Fireplace chimney and firebox must be in good working order
  • Must have an existing chimney cap and operational damper
  • Property owner must be on site for initial inspection
  • Property owner must be on site day of installation
  • Property owner must be on site for City of Phoenix permit inspection
  • Property owner will be required to contact Southwest Gas to turn gas back on after installed
  • Owner accepts liability if a gas pressure test is required and fails
  • Owner must schedule and pay for a chimney/fireplace inspection and cleaning prior to conversion
  • Owner is responsible for all drywall or construction repair
